OVERVIEW
ALTER is a conference for designers and developers committed to exploring evolving forms of media such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and artifical intelligence.
THEME
Social media continues to evolve and expand into new technologies, changing the way we engage, design, and develop. What potential dangers may lie behind the veil of new and accessible altered realities?
Looking at other tech conferences and watching talks from their speakers made me realize how quickly social media is adopting new technology and putting it in the public's hands.
BRAND SYSTEM
I used a thesaurus to generate name ideas for the conference and ran with Alter. I began to sketch out ideas for logos and liked the idea of a font that actually altered the text, much like the name. The font ULTIMA gave a good base for the final logo.

PROMOTION
Branded story posts on Instagram will reveal the names of each speaker as they come out of their "altered reality" and into focus.
ENVIRONMENT
Javits Center, New York City
655 West 34th St.
Manhattan, New York 10014
New York City is the most social and technologically advanced city the country, so it was a no-brainer that the conference would be held there.
A fold-out poster given to users during their entrance doubles as an itinerary that communicates the talks, speakers, schedule, and floor map of the venue.
GEAR
Each nametag comes with a sticker pack so that guests can choose which pronouns they want on their badge.
A phone case and QR code to download a live wallpaper will be distributed on the way out as a thanks for attending the conference and a way to remember your experience every time you open social media.
DIGITAL PRESENCE
The site's Home page displays a video in the background that gives the user a better sense of what the conference is about. Other pages include an About page for the speakers, talks, and location, an Opportunities page for sponsors and volunteers, a Travel page for nearby amenities, and a Ticket page to purchase a pass to the event.
The gradient throughout the website moves and shifts each icon and image in and out of focus while still keeping things pleasing and readable.
